Forecast Snow Stability: Increasing hazard through the period as accumulations of fresh unstable windslab gain depth, mainly on North-East and East aspects above 900 metres. Features such as corrie rims, gullies and ridge flanks will be most affected. Fragile cornices will build above these aspects. Windward aspects will be scoured and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: There will be gale force West-South-Westerly winds and snow showers. The freezing level will drop to around 600 metres by dawn and remain there through the day. Observed Weather Influences: Initial snow on the higher summits soon turned to rain at all elevations. Storm force South-Westerly winds. The freezing level rose to well above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: There is a wet but well bonded and stable snowpack. Greatest accumulations are on North to East aspects above 900 metres. Remaining cornices are prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard is Low.
