Avalanche Activity

In some localities in some localities up to 20 cm of snow has fallen above approximately 1500 m. The small quantity of fresh snow and the wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects. Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs of last week represent the main danger. They can be released very easily. These have formed especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. Avalanches can be triggered in the old snowpack reach large size in particular on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. Snow sport activities outside marked and open pistes call for experience and great restraint.

Snowpack Structure

The small quantity of fresh snow of the last two days and in particular the wind slabs formed by the strong wind are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes. Avalanches can in some places be released in deep layers in particular on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes.
