Forecast Snow Stability: Drifting deposits will form shallow accumulations of windslab in wind sheltered locations on North-East through East to South aspects above 700 metres. Deposits are not expected to become significant in depth and will lie on bare ground in many locations. Above 900 metres, localised unstable accumulations will develop over refrozen snow-ice on the steepest terrain. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation falling as very light snow showers above 500 metres overnight, followed by a dry day. Strong Westerly winds overnight, veering North-Westerly during the morning, then easing as they back to become light South-Westerly by the end of the period Freezing level, initially fluctuating around 650 metres, gradually rising to 800 metres by late afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Light, intermittent rain arrived during the morning accompanied by strong, generally Westerly winds. Freezing level over the summits at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Surface layers were softening slightly in the milder temperatures. Well bonded, stable snow throughout. Very patchy cover below 900 metres. Larger areas of snow encountered at higher elevations, especially on North to East aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
