Outgoing longwave radiation during the night was good. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften later than the day before. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist snow slides are possible below approximately 2800 m. This applies in particular on very steep sunny slopes. Large-grained weak layers exist in the old snowpack on near-ridge shady slopes. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack can be released in very isolated cases by people here. The clearly visible wind slabs of last week can be released in isolated cases, but mostly only by large additional loads, on very steep shady slopes at intermediate and high altitudes.

Snowpack Structure

The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to rapid settling of the snowpack over a wide area in all aspects below approximately 2500 m. As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures the snowpack consolidated during the last few days. Intermediate and high altitudes: The sometimes storm force wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
