Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will build on South-West through West to Northerly aspects above 900m, becoming more widespread and deeper in wind sheltered places on W to NW facing slopes. Coire rims, back walls and gully tops most affected. On same aspects unstable cornices will build, threatening slopes below. The old moist snowpack will refreeze and stabilise. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation will fall as persistent snowfall above 500m overnight and above 800m or so later in the day. Freezing level at 650m overnight rising to 850m by the end of the afternoon. Winds will be gale to storm force East-South-Easterly easing slightly later. Observed Weather Influences: A damp day with a freezing level around summit levels for most of the day. Persistent showery rainfall below 800m sleet and snow above with snow becoming persistent on the tops later. Winds gale to storm force East-South-Easterly. ObservedSnowStability: Significantly diminished snow cover on all aspects. There is a moist and generally stable snowpack at lower elevations with the snowline around 700m. Above 950 metres on Westerly through North to North-Easterly aspects the snowpack is generally well bonded and stable with shallow new snow accumulations. Avalanche debris likely from cornice collapse noted a 800m on a NW aspect. The avalanche hazard is Low.
