Forecast Snow Stability: Poorly bonded windslab will be present on North-West through North-East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. This will become moist, leading to wet snow instabilities as the freezing level rises, with avalanches likely. Steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims, gully tops and ridge flanks will be particularly affected, where instability will persist in the deeper drifts. Cornices will be fragile and prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.
Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will be around 500 metres overnight quickly rising above the summits by dawn. After a dry night precipitation is expected, falling initially as snow, gradually turning to rain at all elevations as the freezing level rises above the summits. Winds will be strong West-North-West backing South-Westerly, strengthening to gale force later. Observed Weather Influences: Snow showers above 200 metres for the duration of the forecast period, consistent with the freezing level at 300 metres. Winds were gale force Westerly, West-North-Westerly later. ObservedSnowStability: Unstable windslab continued to accumulate through the day mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. Isolated accumulations were also noted on North-West and North aspects due to cross loading. Instabilities are greatest in deeper accumulations, particularly in steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims, scarp slopes and ridge flanks. Avalanche activity noted on an East aspect at around 950 metres. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
