At high altitudes, considerable avalanche danger
At higher altitudes the avalanche danger is considerable. Due to fresh snow and wind impact, fresh snowdrifts have accumulated which require caution. Avalanche prone locations are found mostly on N/E/S facing slopes in rigeline terrain and gullies/bowls. A slab can trigger even by minimum additional loading, i.e. one sole skier. Due to solar radiation, naturally triggered avalanches are also possible.
About 20 cm of fresh snow was registered, with wind influence. Thus, the snow was transported, generated fresh drifts which are often prone to triggering. Loose layers inside the snowpack are now blanketed with hoar, also the transitions to the old snowpack are problem zones. The old snowpack itself has been weakened by faceted layers.
In the northern barrier cloud zones, low lying residual cloud will persist, disperse only slowly. In the remaining ranges the conditions will be better, more sunshine is expected. Strong N/NE winds, even stormy at summit altitudes. Temperature: at 1500 m: -8 degrees; at 2000 m: -11 degrees, still wintery.
Wednesday will be sunny far and wide. Cloudbanks will be few and harmless. Strong northerly winds. Temperature: -8 degrees. Milder weather is expected to follow so that the snowpack will be able to settle. Avalanche danger will thereafter decrease.
