New wind slabs have formed near the tops of slopes on east through west aspects with the snow received since Monday evening. These wind slabs are particularly reactive on southeast to southwest slopes steeper than 40°, as they rest on a sun crust. They formed on top of older, more stubborn wind slabs that are still reactive in stability tests. This means a small surface avalanche could be enough to trigger a more deeply buried wind slab. Snow amounts vary widely across the forecast area. In the Mines Madeleine sector, which received the highest accumulations, new wind slabs could be up to 50 cm thick.
