The wind has transported some snow. Along the border with Switzerland a treacherous avalanche situation will persist in some regions.

The strong wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation as well as at high altitude sometimes easily released wind slabs formed. The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant above approximately 2400 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in steep terrain and at transitions into gullies and bowls,, but in isolated cases also at a distance from ridgelines. Along the border with Switzerland the avalanche danger is considerable (level 3).

Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Intermediate and high altitudes in places that are protected from the wind: Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. As a consequence of falling temperatures and sleet a crust formed on the surface. This applies in particular below approximately 2000 m. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on shady slopes.
