The strong wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant above approximately 2600 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in steep terrain and at transitions into gullies and bowls,, but in isolated cases also at a distance from ridgelines.
Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Intermediate and high altitudes in places that are protected from the wind: Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on shady slopes.
