Avalanche Activity

As the precipitation becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses.

As a consequence of new snow and wind a high avalanche danger will prevail. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the wind slabs that are forming over a wide area will become increasingly prone to triggering. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular at the base of rock walls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In all aspects large to very large avalanches are possible. Gliding avalanches can also occur. Single snow sport participants can release avalanches very easily.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area intensive precipitation. As a consequence of new snow and wind from southerly directions, further wind slabs will form. In particular places where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are especially precarious.

Tendency

Light precipitation.
