Loose dry avalanching is likely out of steep terrain when the sun shows itself over Thursday. This will transition to a loose wet cycle as the afternoon warms up.
The sun should come out over Thursday. With it the risk of loose wet avalanching will rise.
A small avalanche could have nasty consequences with a minefield of shallowly buried rocks about.

Several pulses of SE snow and wind have come through over the last 4 days. Several layers of windslab may be present as well as a buried rime crust. We suspect a reasonable bond of any layers but the snowpack is generally unobserved in the Ohau back country. I would be taking my time and having a look at the structure and strength of recent snowfall, as well as what might lie in the runout, ie, rocks!
No recent avalanche activity reported, but observations have been limited by bad weather.
Approximately 50 to 70cm of new snow has fallen in the Ohau area over the last 5 days above 1800m, tapering to around 40cm at 1500m. In the last 24 hours around 20cm of new snow has fallen to around 1000m with moderate SE winds. Windslab has continued to build at higher elevations lee to the SE through the week, so on and about aspects and features facing broadly NW. Windslab development is mostly restricted to higher elevation slopes that have picked up the most snow. Many slopes are only just getting to threshold for avalanching. A rime crust is now buried around 20cm below surface, but the depth is variable depending on local wind effect.
Cloud should break over Thursday and the sun returns. Freezing level will rise over the afternoon.
Probably not much of sliding hazard at present, though there maybe firm snow exposed at ridgelines.
