Avalanche Activity

Individual weak layers exist in the centre of the old snowpack above approximately 2500 m.

Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads especially above approximately 2500 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, and on very steep slopes at intermediate and high altitudes. In addition the hard wind slabs in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls are capable of being triggered in some cases still. In particular at low and intermediate altitudes and in steep rocky terrain more small and medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation.

Snowpack Structure

Monday: In some localities 5 cm of snow has fallen above approximately 1600 m. In particular steep sunny slopes low and intermediate altitudes: The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. In the morning, There is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. Especially steep west, north and northeast facing slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Weak layers exist in the old snowpack. In shady places that are protected from the wind: Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. In the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
