Kernpunkte

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above an elevation of 8,500. Buried layers of weak faceted snow persist. Human triggered avalanches are possible in avalanche terrain where consolidated snow lies upon these weak layers. Below 8,500 feet the hazard is Low and avalanches are not expected.

Weak faceted snow persists in the snowpack. In some areas this snow exists as layers while in shallow areas the entire snowpack can be faceted. Where consolidated snow lies upon these weaknesses, avalanches can be triggered by backcountry riders and skiers. These slabs could be shallow and small in size or could be larger, particularly on north facing slopes where greatest slab depths lie and failure could occur at the base of the snowpack.
