The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW this morning at all elevations but will raise to MODERATE this afternoon as sunlight and warming provide the possibility for wet slide activity. Above 8500' this activity could be in the form of shallow wet loose and wet slabs involving the surface snow. Below 8500', where the snowpack has been warmer, wet loose slides could dig into deeper layers, particularly at the lowest elevations.

As the current high pressure system moves East of the area another storm system will enter the area with heavy snow and stronger Southwest winds(20-30mph) expected by midnight Saturday. Prior to the snow, temperatures are expected to reach the mid thirties at high elevations and into the forties in the valleys. Due to these warm temperatures the precipitation may begin as rain at the lower elevations. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW Friday morning and increase to MODERATE in the afternoon as warming weakens the snowpack prior to the arrival of the next storm. As Friday nights lows may only reach the mid twenties this warming may occur quickly on Saturday. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
