Kernpunkte

The avalanche danger is LOW at the mid and upper elevations this morning where overnight temperatures fell below freezing and mostly stable snow exists. In the afternoon, this danger is to remain LOW as new snow begins to fall, however, if this snow arrives late in the day and rapid warming affects the snow surface at these elevations, it will become possible for humans to trigger dry slab, wet slab, and wet loose avalanches in steep avalanche prone terrain. Yesterday at the high elevations a snowmobiler triggered a large slab avalanche around noon on an east facing slope in the South Fall Creek drainage of the Snake River Range. At low elevations freezing did not occur and the avalanche danger is MODERATE today where wet slides are possible on steep terrain that still has sufficient snow depths.
