Avalanche Activity

A critical avalanche situation will be encountered over a wide area. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the often large wind slabs can be released easily or naturally.

A lot of new snow above approximately 2000 m. Avalanches can be released very easily and reach dangerously large size. This applies in particular above approximately 2000 m. From high-altitude starting zones the avalanches can reach the valleys and endanger transportation routes that are exposed. At low and intermediate altitudes moist avalanches can penetrate even deep layers. The conditions are very critical for backcountry touring.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 100 to 150 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last three days above approximately 2000 m. A lot of new snow in the high Alpine regions. The sleet gave rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. As a consequence of new snow and wind, sometimes large wind slabs formed.
