Snowpack

In most areas, there is only a little snow at intermediate and high altitudes. At these altitudes, snow layering is mostly favourable. Above 2800 m, where there was already a cohesive old snowpack before the precipitation in the second half of November, there are some weak layers of faceted crystals on northern slopes. Isolated avalanches may be triggered in these places in layers deep in the old snowpack.

During the night to Tuesday, there will be widespread precipitation in the north. The snowfall level will drop rapidly from 2000 m to 1000 to 1200 m. On Tuesday, it will be very cloudy in the north, with some precipitation at times. By Tuesday evening, 15 to 30 cm of snow will have fallen on the northern flank of the Alps and in the western Lower Valais. In the south, it will be sunny and dry with northerly winds.

Avalanche danger will increase somewhat with the precipitation during the night to Tuesday, especially in the west and north. In the south and in Grisons there will be little change.

Wednesday

It will be mostly cloudy on the northern flank of the Alps. A little snow may fall. It will remain sunny in the south.

Avalanche danger will decrease.
