Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will continue to consolidate and will become well bonded in all locations. Surface layers will become firmer as the colder conditions return. Deepest accumulations will be encountered above 800 metres on North through East to South aspects in wind sheltered locations such as gully tops, corrie rims and burn lines. Elsewhere terrain will be mostly wind scoured and bare. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight rain will ease to leave a mainly dry day. Initially the freezing level will be above the summits and will then drop to around 700 metres by morning. Gale force Westerly winds. Observed Weather Influences: Dry initially, then light precipitation, falling as rain at all levels. The freezing level rose from around 500m to be above the summits. Strong South-Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is consolidating and is generally well bonded. Isolated instabilities persist above 800 metres on North through East to South aspects. Gully tops, corrie rims and deep burn lines are most affected. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
