- Above 1,900 m
The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.
The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.
In the Prealps and in Untertilliach 15 to 30 cm of snow will fall on Sunday above approximately 2000 m. If more snow falls danger level 3 (considerable) may be reached. As a consequence of snowfall and the strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The fresh snow and the wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. Avalanches can be released by small loads.
The new snow and wind slabs of the weekend will be deposited on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation and on steep slopes medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind. As the snowfall becomes more intense the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent.
