Kernpunkte

On Wednesday avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider would be surprising.  Small rider triggered Wet Loose avalanches will be possible on very steep south slopes in the afternoon.  Of course even small avalanches can have bigger consequences on big steep slopes or when terrain traps are present.  Even when you are traveling in Low hazard continue to assess conditions and practice good travel techniques.

Very cold overnight temperatures will refreeze the snow surface.  Daytime highs on Wednesday will reach just above freezing near treeline.  The sun is powerful during this time of year and will easily melt the surface snow on sunny slopes.  I don't expect this melting to extend very deeply into the snowpack on Wednesday and this will limit the size of Wet Loose avalanches.  They will be of the greatest concern on steep south slopes where small avalanches could knock a rider off their feet.

Avalanche Discussion

Relatively cold temperatures and sunny skies have resulted in some very good spring riding across elevations!  These cold temperatures have also meant that the sun is really the driver of any avalanche activity.  It is essential to consider aspect and timing when planning your tour to ensure the most fun and safe riding.
