Schladming Tauern South

Avalanche danger above 1.800 m moderate and below 1.800 m low. The main problem is fresh snowdrift. Danger spots are located in the north sector above 1.800 m. Small slab avalanches can be triggered by an alpinist in extremly steep slopes. Caution behind ridgelines. Due to sun radiation in places wet loose-snow avalanches are possible.

The south wind drifts new snow to the north sector. In high altitudes the fresh snowdrift is either on top af a hard old snow cover or on top of faceted snow. Kinetioc metamorphosis of the old snow cover in high altitudes. In medium altitudes the old snow is moist.

Wednesday night the clouds coming from south are getting dense. Before midnight snowfall is called for the southern half of Styria, after midnight inthe northern half. Winds are turning to west or northwest. Cooler airmasses are incoming and the snowline will be 1.000 m in the area of Aussee, 1.200 m in Ennstal Valley and 1.300 m in the upper Murtal Valley. Thursday morning little rain and snowfall in the northern Alps. It will clear up from south. In the afternoon it will change between rainy and sunny weather and the summits can be foggy. Rain and snow showers are possible especially in the north. Snowline will rise from 1.000 m in the morning to 1.600 m in the afternoon.
