Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 100 to 150 cm of snow, and up to 180 cm in some localities, has fallen since yesterday. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The moderate wind has transported the new snow. Intermediate and high altitudes: Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes.

Tendency

Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow remain for the foreseeable future prone to triggering.

Avalanche Activity

In regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanche prone locations are prevalent and the danger is level 4 (high).

A very large quantity of fresh snow as well as the sometimes deep wind slabs are very prone to triggering in all aspects. The fresh snow and the wind slabs can be released naturally. In these regions numerous large and, in isolated cases, very large avalanches are to be expected. From starting zones where no previous releases have taken place in particular the avalanches can reach as far as the valley bottom and endanger transportation routes that are exposed. Without question, it is inadvisable to engage in ski touring, freeriding and snowshoe hiking.
