Kernpunkte

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE at the Mid and Upper elevations and LOW at the Lower elevations. Two avalanche scenarios are possible today. Pockets of surface slab 6 to 18 inches in depth could be triggered on steep, wind loaded slopes near ridge crests, and could sweep skiers or riders into terrain traps or over cliff bands. Deeper instabilities associated with buried weak layers of faceted snow persist, especially in steep, rocky areas with a shallow snowpack. Substantial triggers, such as snowmobiles, large groups, or surface slides are more likely to initiate these deep hard slabs. However, smaller triggers may be enough if a shallow, weak zone is encountered. The consequences of being caught in one of these deep slides could be severe. Avalanches are unlikely in the shallow snowpack at the lower elevations.
