Kernpunkte

The general avalanche hazard will increase from LOW to MODERATE as snow surfaces soften. This could happen before mid-day, and wet loose slides and cornice failures may begin to occur. These events, along with backcountry travelers, could trigger pockets of wet slab up to 18 inches deep. As the day warms, avalanche activity will become more likely. In isolated areas, these warming temperatures will also increase the potential for snowmobilers and large cornice failures to trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches up to five feet in depth. Monitor conditions, stay out from under large cornices, and plan to avoid avalanche terrain after snow surfaces have significantly softened.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Expect partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies on Friday. Overnight lows in the mountains will be around five degrees warmer than Thursday before topping out in the mid 40s in the afternoon. Valley locations will see lows in the mid 20s before rebounding into the mid 50s. Southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds will range from 15 to 25 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be mostly LOW Friday morning before increasing to MODERATE after snow surfaces soften. Wet slabs up to 18 inches in depth, along with shallow wet loose slides, will be possible in steep terrain. Cornice failures remain a concern, and they have some potential to trigger large, deep wet slabs in isolated areas.
