You can trigger an avalanche where recent snowfall has drifted or settled into stiffer slabs above a crust buried about a foot deep. The most dangerous slopes are steeper than about 35 degrees below ridges, steep rollovers, or near cross-loaded gullies.
Sunny slopes will pose a threat for mostly small, loose, wet avalanches. The concern will grow as the day progresses. Slushy surface conditions, pinwheels, and roller balls are indications wet avalanche activity is imminent, and it's time to move to shadier, colder slopes or exit avalanche terrain.
