Avalanche Summary

You are most likely to trigger an avalanche on easterly-facing slopes at upper elevations in the Park Range and Flat Top Mountains. Recent winds drifted snow into a cohesive slab resting on a buried weak layer about one to three feet deep. Before triggering one of these avalanches, you may not see obvious signs of unstable snow, like cracking or collapsing. As temperatures warm throughout the day, look for moist snow surfaces where you find pinwheels or fan-like point releases of snow around darker objects on steep slopes. When you see these, it is time to seek colder snow or call it a day.
