Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Southern San Juan Mountains. New snow and strong winds will create very dangerous avalanche conditions starting Thursday night and lasting through Saturday. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended during this time.

Avalanche conditions are generally safe, and triggering an avalanche is difficult. The few places you should exercise caution are where winds are drifting recent snow into small cohesive slabs on lee slopes. You will find drifted snow below ridgelines and on the sides of gullies on north to northeast through east-facing slopes.
