Kernpunkte
At the mid and upper elevations older slabs 2 to 4 feet in depth lie upon weak layers of faceted snow. Yesterday afternoon a slab estimated to be 3 to 4 feet in depth released spontaneously from an elevation of 10,800 feet on a sunlit aspect of Fossil Mountain in Grand Teton National Park. Similar slabs could be human triggered today especially in areas with recent wind deposits and where the underlying faceted snow is well developed. These slabs can be triggered on slopes which have been previously crossed by skiers or snowmobilers.
