With a slow clearance tomorrow, storm slab is the main concern after all the new snow, but if the sun starts to shine, greenhousing could increase the loose wet hazard quickly. Think about the terrain above you and avoid runout zones.

Conservative route choices are a good idea tomorrow to allow the new snow time to settle.

Current Snowpack Conditions

125mm of rain has fallen in the last 3days, with snow above 2100m and gale NW winds. Below 2000m, there was limited new snow as the freezing level fluctuated. Above 2000m, limited snow existed before 80cm of snow fell last week, which had a few days to settle. Limited layers of concern exist within the old snow.

Mountain Weather

Showers, clearing in the afternoon. Winds: westerly gale 65 km/h, easing to 40 km/h in the afternoon. Freezing level 2000 metres, lowering to 1700 metres before dawn, then lifting to 2000 metres at night.

Sliding Danger

Expect firm areas from strong winds, mostly on ridge lines and high points. Crampons and ice axe a good idea for ridge travel.
