As a consequence of the precipitation the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. The avalanches can release the moist old snow as well and can reach as far as low altitudes. This applies in particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The fresh snow and the wind slabs can be released easily, even by a single winter sport participant,. Up to 2200 m rain has fallen over a wide area. As the moisture increases more large moist and wet avalanches are to be expected, in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. Wet avalanches can reach a long way in particular in steep gullies. The conditions are precarious for backcountry touring and snowshoe hiking.
