Warm, above-freezing temperatures could cause wet loose avalanches. Freezing levels are forecasted to vary up to 2,500ft. The warming temperatures cause surface snow to lose cohesion.
Wet-moving snow can entrain heavier snow that is more difficult to escape from. They can also break into deeper snow layers to cause persistent slabs (see Problem 2). Pay close attention to signs that the snowpack is warming, including point releases, pinwheels, and roller balls. Keep tabs on the air temperatures in terrain with slopes greater than 30 degrees and freezing levels.
Point releases that fan out down the slope are indicators of wet loose avalanche activity. Often this occurs area shallow areas or cliff bands.
