Kernpunkte

Today will have typical spring conditions with some small wet loose avalanches but they will be small and predictable. There wasn’t much snow to move yesterday, but strong winds may have formed some small wind slabs in upper elevation north facing terrain.

Our last daily avalanche forecast will be this Sunday, April 12th. We will put out updates Mondays & Fridays through the rest of the month. Thank you for all your support and enthusiasm this winter. We’re grateful for the snow we’ve gotten and this incredible backcountry community we’re all a part of.

Avalanche Discussion

The snowpack has adjusted to warm weather with multiple melt-freeze cycles this week that make conditions more stable.

Wet loose avalanches are unlikely today. They should be small and isolated, but watch for them coming down from above as the day warms.

For the best conditions and best stability:

  • Ride slopes just as the top few inches of snow warms and softens
  • Get off slopes as they get wetter and become less supportable
  • Change aspects going from east-facing to west-facing slopes as the sun warms different aspects at different times of the day.

The highest north facing slopes should have cold, dry snow. Yesterday’s winds gusting 50-60 mph may have formed a few small wind slabs at upper elevations.

Today the avalanche danger is LOW.
