Kernpunkte

Avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider will continue to be unlikely on Wednesday.  We can expect sunny skies and warm temperatures to melt more snow than has been melting lately, and it is possible that riders could trigger very small Wet Loose avalanches on steep sunny slopes.  These shallow instabilities are only likely to be dangerous on steep or consequential terrain, where getting knocked off your feet could be a problem.

Wet Loose avalanches have been nonexistent during the last few days because of cool temperatures, and periodic cloud cover.  Sunny slopes have been melting enough to provide good corn riding conditions.  As temperatures heat up over the next few days, and we see sunnier skies, we'll start keeping our eyes out for small Wet Loose instabilities on steep and unsupported south slopes.  Pay attention to how deeply the melting is penetrating into the surface snow.  If you are riding steep sunny slopes, a few cautious turns can give you good information about how stable the surface snow is.
