Avalanche Activity

Since yesterday the weather has been warm. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs can be released easily or naturally.

A lot of new snow above approximately 2000 m. Avalanches can sometimes be released easily and reach large size in isolated cases. This applies in particular on sunny slopes, as well as on wind-loaded slopes above approximately 2100 m. From starting zones that have retained some snow in these regions the avalanches can in isolated cases still reach large size. At low and intermediate altitudes moist avalanches can penetrate even deep layers. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be started very early and concluded timely.

Snowpack Structure

Continuous warming to high altitudes. The sleet gave rise to increasing settling of the snowpack over a wide area in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. As a consequence of new snow and wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed in the last few days.

Tendency

The weather will be mild. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften earlier than the day before.
