LO for 12/2. Avalanches are likely on steep NW, N, NE and E aspects above 900m due to and rising temperatures. Considerable hazard

Forecast Snow Stability: Large areas of unstable windslab will continue to form in sheltered locations. Greatest accumulations will be on steep North-West through North to East aspects above 900m. As the freezing level rises overnight, this windslab will become increasingly unstable and avalanches are likely in these locations. Cornices will also become increasingly unstable and prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be a period of heavy snow this evening above 700m. Overnight, the freezing level will quickly rise to around 1200m accompanied by some light rain. Winds will be strong, initially from the South but veering to the South-West later. Observed Weather Influences: It has been a dry and cold day with strong South-Westerly winds over the summits. The freezing level has been around 800m. ObservedSnowStability: Large areas of windslab are present with greatest accumulations being on steep and sheltered North, North-East and East aspects above 900m. Wind scoured snow slopes are frozen and stable. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
