Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The most recent snow deposits will continue to consolidate and will be soft in nature. The old firm snowpack will thaw at a slower rate, especially above 1000 metres. In both cases, stability will be generally good. Greatest snow amounts will be found on high plateaus and in high North-West through North to East facing coires. Expect snow loss at lower levels. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Rain during the evening will clear to leave a mainly dry day with some light rain edging back in towards the end of the forecast period. The freezing level will be between 1400 and 1600 metres. Winds will be from the South-South-West with some fluctuation, easing through the night becoming light. Observed Weather Influences: A mild day with the freezing level remaining above the summits. Dry in the morning turning wet in the afternoon. Gale force South-Westerlies. ObservedSnowStability: The most recent snow deposits continue to consolidate and are now soft in nature. The old firm snowpack is slowly thawing with only the surface layers becoming soft. In both cases, stability is generally good. At lower elevations, thaw conditions prevail with a loss of general snow cover. The avalanche hazard is Low.
