    While the main event is over, light rain showers and warm temperatures will sustain the possibility of wet loose avalanches. They may be getting more difficult to trigger, but if you are in steep terrain and got the snow moving, they would have the potential to become large. Once these large wet avalanches get moving, they can run great distances following ravines and gullies into lower elevations.

    Use caution if you are traveling in very steep or consequential terrain as even small wet loose avalanches can have high consequences if you are carried into obstacles. If you are sinking deeply into wet, heavy snow, it might be best to dial back terrain choices to low-angle slopes. You can also use small steep test slopes to see if you can get the snow to move downhill. If the snow slides easily, then wet loose avalanches are possible.

Avalanche Discussion

The primary dose of moisture from the atmospheric river has tapered off, but light rain and high elevation snow showers may linger on the east slopes of the Cascades through Wednesday. Temperatures will slowly cool, eventually hovering around 4500-5000ft. With the mild temperatures, low and mid-elevation travel in the backcountry will likely be deep, soggy, and challenging. We don't have much information from upper elevations, but you may find dry storm snow if you travel to alpines zones at the highest elevations. Most precipitation occurred with snow levels near 7000ft before cooling slightly. Consequently, storm snow depths are likely minimal. But if you find yourself in dry snow over 6 inches deep, dry snow avalanches may be possible. Use hand pits to investigate how well the new storm snow is bonded to underlying surfaces and look for signs of instability. If you see shooting cracks or feel the snowpack collapse under your weight, you should stick to lower angle slopes. 

Areas such as Mission Ridge and Blewett Pass have a very shallow snowpack, so avalanches will probably be unlikely. Therefore, any avalanche activity would be small and isolated.
