Avalanche Activity

Dry slab avalanches require caution.

The fresh snow of last week as well as the wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released easily, or, in isolated cases naturally in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. Avalanches can also be triggered in near-ground layers and reach large size in particular in places that are protected from the wind. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack and natural avalanches indicate the danger.

Snowpack Structure

The soft wind slabs are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Reports filed by observers and field observations show the unfavourable bonding of the snowpack in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls.
