Avalanche Summary

Strong winds and heavy snow on Thursday night created thick slabs of snow on steep wind-drifted slopes at the upper elevations. If you are traveling in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness, use caution and avoid steep slopes receiving drifted snow. These more dangerous slopes will be located directly below ridgetop.

Also on Saturday, watch for wet avalanches as the cold, dry snow sees its first hit of sun. Wet avalanches will be largest where there is close to a foot of recent snow.
