Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche if you find more than about 10 inches of new snow forming a cohesive slab over the old weak snow surface. The most dangerous slopes are where winds have cross-loaded terrain features forming stiffer and deeper slabs at upper elevations. Look for cracking or collapsing in the new snow as a sign to move to lower-angled slopes. The new snow could also make loose snow avalanches more easy to trigger and larger.

You can find safer travel options by sticking to slopes less than about 35 degrees in steepness or by choosing wind-sheltered lower-elevation slopes with less than 10 inches of new snow.
