The wind slabs are to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and generally at elevated altitudes. They can be released, especially by large additional loads,. Along the border with Switzerland and above approximately 2500 m the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and the danger is greater. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.
The conditions are wintry at high altitude. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly. Low and intermediate altitudes and very steep sunny slopes: The conditions are spring-like. In all altitude zones less snow than usual is lying.
