Triggering small wet snow avalanches will be possible on Saturday at below and near treeline elevations. Keep in mind that even small slides can have high consequence when terrain traps such as cliffs, trees and rocks lie below you. Maintain safe travel practices, and if you notice active rollerballing and slushy snow that penetrates above your boot height, consider low angle terrain or more shaded slopes.

    While Saturday's temperatures are forecasted to be a bit cooler than the last few days, wet loose avalanches will remain possible on steep solar slopes near and below treeline as the day goes on and solar exposure increases with the warming temps. As we get into these Spring freeze-thaw cycles, timing, aspect and elevation play a major role in ski quality and snow stability. Plan well and you could be rewarded with top notch corn skiing. Plan poorly and you could be up against firm snow surfaces or wet loose avalanche problems. Monitoring the upper snowpack is the best way to stay on top of this. If you notice current natural wet loose activity or pinwheeling, understand these signs as indications of decreasing snow stability and therefore increasing likelihood to trigger a slide. Wet loose avalanches move slowly but carry substantial force. Stay aware of your surroundings and what lies below the slopes you travel on.
