Kernpunkte

Large avalanches are unlikely, but watch for isolated pockets of windblown snow at upper elevations. Generally safe avalanche conditions exist in wind-sheltered terrain or where the snowpack surface is frozen hard.

If you brave the spring-like conditions that exist at lower and middle elevations, you'll emerge into a different world at upper elevations. Here, precipitation, even from the last warm storm, has been falling entirely as snow. New snowfall today/tomorrow/etc will be accompanied by moderate to strong winds blowing out of the W-SW. Weather station data is difficult to interpret during mixed rain/snow events, but it appears that a couple inches of snow have likely fallen at elevations above 7500 feet. No new snow is forecasted tonight.

Avalanche Discussion

If I headed out skiing or riding today, I would keep my guard up for new snowfall and where it's forming deeper drifts. Here are a few reasons why:

Snowcover, espcially below 7,000 feet, is minimal, early season hazards like logs, rock, and bare ground exist...Today's avalanche forecast is broght to you with support from Carls Cycle Sales in Boise who has outfitted us with two Polaris 850's...Thanks!
