Kernpunkte

It is unlikely that riders will trigger avalanches on Monday.  Isolated pockets of unstable wet snow may exist by late in the day on steep sunny slopes.  Even when the avalanche danger is low it is wise to carry avalanche rescue gear and practice safe travel techniques like riding slopes one at a time; unlikely doesn't mean impossible.

Avalanche Discussion

After over a week of high pressure, our snowpack has had ample time to adjust to warmer temperatures and sunny weather.  Sunnier slopes have had many cycles of melting during the day and then refreezing overnight.  It was surprising that we didn't see more wet avalanche activity last week when it was even warmer than it is now.  It's still possible that riders on the warmest, steepest slopes could get enough snow moving to get knocked off their feet or carried down slope.

Observers have been finding faceted surface snow on open North slopes; nice for riding now, but could be a weak layer if we get more snow.
