Kernpunkte

The general avalanche danger is LOW today. 'Low' danger does not mean 'no' danger. As winds increase throughout the day, small isolated pockets of slab may be found in steep terrain at the highest elevations. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 8,500 feet, which lack sufficient coverage for an avalanche rating. Early season conditions exist at all elevations, and the main hazard for backcountry travelers remains the shallow snow depths.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )High pressure will bring mostly sunny skies with cloud cover favoring the northern portion of the forecast area. Temperatures will cool into the twenties overnight and then warm into the mid-thirties in the mountains and forties in the valleys. Westerly winds are expected to increase slightly with ridgetop speeds in the teens gusting into the twenties. With little to no change in the weather forecast, the avalanche danger will remain Low for Sunday. For backcountry travelers, the main hazard continues to be the shallow snow depth.
