The avalanche danger continues to be generally LOW today. Avalanche activity is unlikely today.

With continued warm temperatures and very wet and punchy snow conditions, it is wise to stay out of steep gullies where even a small wet avalanche could pile up debris very deeply.

The Avalanche Research Program at Simon Fraser University is conducting an online survey to examine how people use avalanche safety information. They want to hear from all backcountry users to understand how they process information provided in public avalanche forecasts. Anyone who completes the survey before May 15th will be entered to win cash prize.

Current Conditions: With numerous warm days, the snowpack has become wet and sloppy in the low and mid elevations. I found punchy and unsupportable conditions on Thursday making travel difficult. Conditions improve once you're above about 9500 feet. Last night was the coolest night over the last 3 nights with temperatures dipping into the mid 20s. This should help keep the snowpack somewhat supportable this morning at least. The wind was calm overnight.

Mountain Weather: With continued warm temperatures today, expect the snowpack to again become wet and unsupportable in the low and mid elevations. We'll see sun this morning with increasing clouds this afternoon. High temperatures will get into the low 40s in the higher terrain. Saturday looks similar with a weak storm moving through Saturday night that might bring a trace to a couple of inches of snow. Temperatures cool off Sunday and into early next week and then start to warm again later in the week. It doesn't look like we'll see any significant snowfall over the next week.
