In very isolated cases avalanches can be triggered in the old snowpack and reach medium size. These avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on very steep north facing slopes. In addition the fresh and older wind slabs are prone to triggering in some cases. Careful route selection is recommended.

Partly heavy snowfall and strong wind will give rise to extensive snow drift accumulations on Monday night in particular. These can be released very easily. In the west and north in particular, natural avalanches are to be expected. From southern Valais through northern Ticino to Grisons, weak layers exist in the old snowpack. Here, avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach a large size.

In the morning precipitation arrived from the northwest. During the day it was mostly very cloudy on the northern flank of the Alps, but sometimes bright in the inneralpine regions. There was occasional precipitation, which became heavier in the afternoon. The snowfall level dropped quickly to low altitudes. The southern flank of the Alps was dry and sunny with a northerly wind. Fresh snow: From Sunday evening until Monday afternoon: - Northern flank of the Alps, Lower Valais, western Jura: 10 to 20 cm - Elsewhere: a few centimetres or none Temperature: At midday at 2000 m: -8 °C in the north and -3 °C in the south Wind: Moderate to strong, occasionally storm force, from the southwest to northwest On Monday night, there will be persistent and heavy snowfall in the north. The snowfall level will be at low altitudes. The southern flank of the Alps will remain mostly dry. In the morning, the snowfall in the north will cease. During the day, the west and south will be quite sunny. In the course of the day, there will be isolated bright spells in the northeast as well. Fresh snow: From Monday afternoon until Tuesday morning: - Northern Alpine ridge from the Aletsch region to the Tödi: 40 to 60 cm - Other parts of the northern flank of the Alps and of Valais, the Gotthard region and northern Grisons, also Silvretta and the western Jura: 20 to 40 cm - Central Grisons, remaining parts of Engadine, central and eastern Jura: 10 to 20 cm, but locally up to 30 cm - Further south: smaller amounts or none Temperature: At midday at 2000 m: -6°C in the north and -3 °C in the south Wind: - Strong from the west to northwest - In the south, a strong northerly wind even in the valleys

Wednesday: On Tuesday night a little more snow will fall in the north and east. The snowfall level will be approximately 1000 m. Once the residual cloud disperses, Wednesday will be quite sunny in the northeast as well. The avalanche danger will decrease in the north, but not change significantly in the south. Thursday: On Wednesday night a strong southwesterly wind will develop. Thursday will be quite sunny in the mountains. In the north, the southwesterly wind will give rise to snow drift accumulations that are prone to triggering. The avalanche danger may increase a little in some regions. In the south it will not change significantly.
