The General Avalanche Hazard is CONSIDERABLE this morning and could rise to HIGH during the day as new snow and winds form new soft slabs and add weight to existing surface slabs. In steep, wind loaded terrain, these slabs could release naturally or be easily triggered by backcountry travelers to depths of one to four feet. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended today. Any extended periods of rain in the valleys will bring the possibility of shallow wet slides.On Friday, a snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche in the Indian Creek Drainage, northwest of Alpine.
