At the mid and high elevations new and recently fallen snow lie upon rime crusts, sun crusts, and wind packed snow surfaces. In very steep terrain, backcountry enthusiasts will have an increasing chance to trigger sluffs and pockets of slab to eighteen in depths as today's storm brings additional snowfall to the mountains. Avalanches at low elevations are unlikely today.

Periods of light to moderate snowfall are expected tonight through Friday. Sustained westerly winds with averages of twenty five to thirty miles per hour are expected during this time while mountain temperatures reach into the mid twenties.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate in the Teton and Southwest Trails areas and Low and in the Togwotee Pass area. In the Tetons and Southwest trails areas, surface slabs to depths of eighteen inches could be human triggered in steep avalanche terrain. In the Togwotee area, where less snow has fallen, avalanche activity is limited to isolated pockets in very steep wind loaded terrain.
